Returned 20,000 containers universities

20 370 containers were recovered in the pilot return beverage containers which began on 20 April at universities in Barcelona and will run until December.

The aim of the pilot is to improve the results of selective collection and quality of waste by the return of beverage containers (cans and plastic bottles of less than 2 liters). To achieve this they have installed 16 machines back to different schools of the University of Barcelona, ​​Polytechnic University of Catalonia and School ELISAVA.Per encourage and appreciate the participation of the university community in the return packaging machines emit tickets with codes.
At the beginning of the month held a raffle among the people who participate and register codes in the virtual platform of projecte.La last week took delivery of gifts to winners of the draw held in early July, received the lucky cards gift shop at Oxfam shops. Next week will be delivered to the three winners of the draw in September to obtain a ticket for the Festival In-Edit and theater tickets.

The initiative, promoted by the Chamber of Commerce, ASCAME and Funditec included in the European Green Med Initiative (GMI), funded by the European Union under the ENPI CBC MED program via the Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument , Catalonia and with the collaboration of the Foundation for Waste Prevention and Responsible Consumption.

More than 20,000 beverage containers recovered in five months demonstrates the success of the pilot. The machine where containers have been returned from the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona, ​​with over 2,600 containers.

In Catalonia are consumed every day 9 million beverage containers, of which only 3.5 collected selectively; the rest end up landfilled, incinerated or scattered around. This project aims to change this reality and inspired by the model return of packaging waste implemented in numerous countries around the world, giving an economic value to each package when you buy and when they returned, and allows to reach levels of selective collection clearly higher than our environment.
