Born Bridge Food

Wednesday 15th of July Bridge project presented food, driven by Waste Prevention and Consumer Foundation and the Foundation Resource Bank and with the collaboration of a dozen companies and organizations to take advantage of the surplus industry catering and food trade. The Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat of Catalonia supports the initiative, which companies have already joined the Group as Good Price, Valira or catering company F. Rock.

Bridge Food aims to reduce food waste and also raise awareness. The initiative has the support of the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat of Catalonia and has already begun to work with a dozen companies and organizations participating in the city of Barcelona.

The project is in pilot until the end of September in Barcelona, ​​with the support of the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat of Catalonia and is working with twenty member companies and organizations.

The three main pillars of the bridge food are: offer a diagnosis and a proposal of good practices towards food waste companies; awareness; and a network of interaction between companies and donor organizations receiving food in order to take advantage of surplus and respond to a social need. Therefore, the project is aimed at catering companies, restaurants or food stores that want to reduce food waste in its stores and give their surplus, and organizations to support vulnerable groups in the city of Barcelona ( children, seniors, families, soup kitchens ...). At the same time, wants to spread environmental and socio-economic benefits associated with the reduction of food waste and influence consumer habits, attitudes and normalizing win the food and drink consumed in restaurants or buy not following proper criteria.

According to Rosa Garcia, director of the Foundation for Waste Prevention and Consumer "This project complements other initiatives providing various aspects differentiators: the reduction of waste through diagnostics companies and proposals of good practice, the immediate advantage of the food surpluses fresh or cooked these companies, and the fact that users of social organizations benefit from nutritional meals cooked by partner companies. "
