The Agència de Residus de Catalunya is a public law entity with jurisdiction over the waste generated in Catalonia and that which is managed in its territorial area.

In order to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Catalonia and protect the environment, the main objectives of the Catalan Waste Agency are:

• promote the minimization of waste and its hazard
• the promotion of selective collection
• waste recovery
• the disposition of the rejection
• the recovery of spaces and soils degraded by uncontrolled discharges of waste or contaminated

Radioactive waste, waste from prospecting, extraction, treatment and storage of mineral resources and the exploitation of quarries, non-hazardous agricultural and livestock waste are excluded from its competence. and are used exclusively in the context of agricultural exploitation, declassified explosives, wastewater and gaseous effluents emitted into the atmosphere.
