The Call Masdeu Valley is a place of interconnections – between city and forest, humans and nature, past and future – and a Mediterranean benchmark in the search for solutions to the climate crisis. Here we weave autonomous community spaces removed from the mercantile logic through a network of projects coordinated in the Valley Assembly. Together we innovate and recover knowledge and practices to live well within the biophysical limits of the valley and the planet. The Can Masdeu Community Gardens are a movement for local land re-appropriation born in the fall of 2002 under the impetus of a confluence of young people, retirees and diverse families. We are a meeting point, a community experience of productive self-learning that complements our daily diet with fresh, local and organic food. We build the community among all, attending monthly assemblies and assuming tasks and responsibilities. In the assembly we manage aspects such as the obtaining and distribution of water, land and manure, the rehabilitation and maintenance of the ponds and the centennial irrigation system, as well as participation in the associative life of the neighborhood. Regenerades is a community space for production and research that seeks to achieve biological fertility with nutrients at a local level. We work with permanent covers, carbon-rich compost, bio-shredded, green manures, plant extracts, vermicompost, ecological seedlings, xero-gardening, phyto-purification and a good dose of agro-fitness.
