The Casal Joan Casanelles is a living, active and participatory municipal facility. It was born and grew from the active participation of all the people we have been part of since 1995 with the aim of being a tool to promote the well-being of the elderly in the Sant Martí district. Volunteering is the banner of our Casal as more than 50 volunteers make possible a wide and diverse range of workshops and leisure activities that make Casanelles a living space that promotes active aging.
El Casanelles is a solidarity center, connected to the social reality and with a strong sense of community that allows to establish synergies with many entities in the neighborhood and participate in solidarity initiatives that often start from the users themselves. The Casal is sensitive to the group of elderly women in the neighborhood, as it is the headquarters of the friendship group, giving the Casal a very important gender perspective for us.
The Casal offers a stable program of physical, cultural, artistic, training, leisure and language activities to promote the health and well-being of the elderly. To complement this program, one-off activities are also offered, such as talks, intergenerational activities, joint activities with the other Casals in the district or the annual meeting of lacemakers.

The urban garden of the Clot district is managed by the Casal de Gent Gran Joan Casanelles. Fifteen users of the center work throughout the year, although the facility will also be used to carry out collective projects. In addition to individual use, part of the 40 small cultivation tables -together in pairs- will be reserved for collective use in dynamic projects linked to the Casal de Gent Gran.
