Leading environmental education facility in the Sants-Montjuïc District. We promote the culture of sustainability among citizens.
The Sants-Montjuïc Environmental Classroom, inaugurated on October 10, 2024, is the leading facility in environmental education in the Sants-Montjuïc district. We promote the culture of sustainability among citizens.
This Environmental Classroom is one of the projects proposed by the Poble-sec neighborhood in the participatory process of the 2021-2024 Neighborhood Plan, which has financed the construction of the classroom, furniture and office automation. Specifically, the Hort de la Font Trobada Association proposed in 2021 that the expansion of these community gardens include the construction of an environmental classroom in the same gardens of Joan Prats. Both the gardens and the new environmental classroom have a community-based dynamism by eco-environmental entities in the neighborhood. In fact, the Poble-sec Environmental Classroom has been operating in an itinerant format for some time and had already been integrated into the Barcelona Environmental Facilities Network (XEAB). Now the Sants-Montjuïc Environmental Classroom is a municipal facility managed by the Som la Clau association.
The construction of the Environmental Classroom has been carried out in parallel with the improvement of the recreation areas of the Joan Prats gardens and the paths that lead up to them from Poble-sec, as proposed by parents of students from the Tres Pins and Bosc de Montjuïc schools. These improvements mean that the Environmental Classroom is now in a more pleasant, safe and also more accessible school environment both from Miramar Avenue and from the Poble-sec neighborhood.
The activities do not always take place in the Montjuïc bar, but are carried out in a decentralized manner in the civic centers and community facilities of the neighborhoods.
