LiquenCity is a citizen science project to discover the diversity of lichens that live in the trees of Barcelona and Madrid and relate this to air quality.
The project seeks the participation of the inhabitants of both cities who, together with the collaboration of a team of lichen experts, will find and identify the lichens that live in both capitals.
Lichens are good bioindicators! Lichens are very sensitive to environmental changes in general and atmospheric pollution levels in particular. This makes them suitable for science to use to measure this type of pollution.
