The Maritime Museum of Barcelona is a space for the interpretation and dissemination of Catalan maritime culture in an innovative, participatory and close to society and the territory, through the research, conservation and safeguarding of heritage. It wants to be a reference institution for Mediterranean maritime culture, open and accessible to all of society, and cooperative with people and organizations. The Museum has the will to excel in heritage management, knowledge creation and education, with the mission of acting as a promoter of social and territorial progress in its environment, from the perspective of the relationship of Catalonia and its people with the sea, which is what makes the Barcelona Maritime Museum unique compared to other maritime themed museums.
The monumental ensemble of the Royal Shipyards of Barcelona has more than seven centuries of history. It was built in the 13th century for the manufacture and maintenance of galleys and warships in the service of the King of Aragon, Peter the Great. It is one of the most important Civil Gothic buildings in the world.
