The 1891 Compañía Anónima de Barcelona Tram asked permission to build a garage and a few tables on the street with Viladomat Marqués de Campo Sagrado. It was a private company, because until 1958 not municipalized transport service in the city, when the site of the former depot came under the Private Sociedad Municipal Tram Barcelona antecedent Transport Barcelona.
Year after Transports de Barcelona stop using the premises, the Municipal Institute of Housing began building what was to be a block of flats. But the works were interrupted and the housing project was not finished. Meanwhile, residents demanded that the solar settle public facilities.
In 1984, the City Council gave space to build a macro-police station, a project which the Ministry of the Interior resigned in 1987 to the intensity of the protests of neighbors. In December 1989, the Council presented a new project to create the site with a sports park and a garden area.
The project became a reality in 1996 when the company began to operate AIGUAJOC for a period of fifty years, the sports center. Two years later, the building-a modern building of concrete, glass and metall- was created Garages Borrell and the Civic Center in 2001 was added to the whole school Ferran Sunyer.
The performing arts are the protagonists of the activities of the Civic Center Garages Borrell, which however are also cultural workshops and recreational activities of all kinds. Among the most important programs is the Tísner laboratory dedicated to supporting the performing arts and the emerging school of arts Tísner Petit, aimed at children.
Monday to Friday from 9 to 22 h.
Saturday from 10 to 14 and from 16 to 20 h.
Saturdays in July and September, the center will be closed.
